Who we are
Tū Māia Anake Trust is here to support wāhine Māori to reconnect with who they are and where they come from. We were created by wāhine Māori, for wāhine Māori, especially for those who have felt disconnected from their culture, their identity, and their whakapapa.
Our kaupapa is simple. We help wāhine stand strong with courage, heal from disconnection, and build a better future for themselves and their whānau. Everything we do is grounded in kaupapa Māori values and Te Whare Tapa Whā, supporting the whole person, tinana, hinengaro, wairua, and whānau.
Many wāhine have grown up without knowing their iwi, their marae, or how to introduce themselves in te reo. Some felt whakamā at school, or felt like they had to hide parts of who they are to fit in. This can lead to pain, shame, and low confidence. Our Trust exists to change that story.
Through our programmes, we support wāhine to learn their whakapapa, strengthen their wellbeing, and step into leadership. We create safe spaces where wāhine can be proud of being Māori, speak up, and grow in confidence. We focus on real-life skills too, helping wāhine build routines, set goals, and get support that makes life easier.
Our work is community-led and works best when we do it together. We work alongside whānau, schools, and community partners so wāhine feel supported, not judged. We also collect video testimonies so wāhine can share their journey in their own words and show the real impact behind the work.
Tū Māia Anake means to stand strong with courage. That is what we help wāhine do for themselves, their whānau, and the next generation.
